Hello Victor, Who says ? I think the Hybrid Super cars are coming ! Is not just a concept but shwroom ready very soon. Toyota does not have had the "Halo" Flag ship High Performance Sport Car since the demise of the formidable "Twin Turbo 6 Speed Supra" sport car that were the standard for performance Sports car builders to follow in those days.....Toyota needs a Halo car.. Not just any Super Sports car but a HSC such as; HybridSportsCar.
Nissan came out with the "Z" .... Toyota will bring out the "Hybrid Sports Car" my 2 cents on that ! I hope Toyota will use the new F1 format smaller displacement high revving V8 as the ICE instead of the V6. But again the V6 platform in conjunction with HSD are already in place so will be prudent to predict for Toyota to gain cost advantage... Using the already existing V6 in its upcoming HSC ( Hybrid SuperSports Car. )

There is also a concept 2 seater, looks a bit like the Frog eyed sprint of eons ago. Its on the Toyota DE website under concepts.

There is an all electric sports car called Fetish made by a French company. That (i think) is available now.

Toyota's formula One Centre in Colgne Germany this 06 F1 season....and will ask MR, Tomita himself about the implementation of F1 technology unto the Hybrid Super Sport car on the horizon ... Toyota will need a "Halo" vehicle again.

Toyota killed the MR-2 and the Celica, here in the States due to sales dwindling down every 6 months. till they stop importing them. However they are going to bring the HSC be it Lexus bound first or Toyota brands
but definately on the build agenda table !

 

Yes the MR2 and the Celica are gone unfortunately. This is the norm for the MR2 which has always been a limited run car, Im surprised the latest MR2 was built for so long.

There have been reports that the Toyota "Priapus" would be built, the link above is an example, but these can all be traced back to a hoax article which is also the first mention of the name "Priapus". No car maker would produce a car with such a name due to the meaning of the word!

Comment: Ok I found out this thing was a hoax a couple of days ago (I had seen the original glossynews.com article on fark.com) And I zealously inquired about it. But here's the funny part, the dealership in San Diego took two weeks to finally give me an answer about this car (since their supervisors, managers, and toyota corp had nothing to say.) But what they told me is that it will initially only go on sale in Italy to see the demand. Sounded a lil fishy to me too but its what Kearny Mesa Toyota told me.

I suggest inquiring with your own local dealers and pushing them to call up Toyota HQ. See if you get the same response.

Its interesting to note that some articles say it will be released Spring 2005 in Italy, others say fall 2005 Germany (It hasnt been, I live in Germany). Prices have also ranged fro $56,000 to $150,000.

Of course if you have an official Toyota/Lexus press release you can scan and e-mail me, I will be off to my dealer to order one the next day.

I wont hold my breath waiting.

and also visit "Cologne" the Home base of Toyota AG F1. I might give you a ring er, email. Perhaps we can meet up somewhere in Germany and talk about the Toyota Hybids or Hybrid Sport cars.

Also, my "dream" ! Want to take 6 months at least off work and take my Prius ship it over there to the "Old Continent" and do the Tour of Europe...

Im not an expert on this by any means, but as far as I know for stays upto 6 months, you can keep your US plates. I expect you will need to get a temporary import certificate, and possibly pay a tax deposit incase you sell or "loose" your prius, but this is just a suspision. For stays over 3 months you will need a visa I think. I sugest you get your visa via Germany rather than the UK/Irland due to the UK's non implementation of the Schengen agreement.
