Original dealer where we looked at the car had the color but not the the pkg we wanted, so he put our name on "the list". A few days later he calls with a car, right pkg, wrong color. We decide we really do want this car so, I call a few other dealers and bingo right color, right pkg. They would only sell at MSRP, but they had what we wanted, so we jumped on it.

Funny thing was my wife who had not test driven one yet got in the car and found out how not to start the car. With her foot on the brake, she she would press the power button but car would not turn on, so I try it and same thing happens. So, I get the salesmen and he taps the power button and it turns on. What we were doing was pressing and holding it down for for a second or so, this prevented it from turning on. It has to be very briefly tapped. Other than that it all went well and it was averaging 50mpg after about the first 60 miles.

Now, where is that friggn manual...got some reading to do!

Congratulations! Starting the car takes the most getting used to. The time you press the button isn't as important as doing so with brake depressed and looking for the Ready icon on the dash. You'll be very excited these days reading the manual and observing everything in your new Prius. Reading this forum will also provide you with interesting and informative info on this car. Enjoy.

Congratulations and welcome. The people on this site are great.

They helped me find mud flaps, cargo nets, fog light protectors, even to realize the rear dome light has a 'door' setting . (of course, it is in the manual, and we read pretty well, but turning pages with these paws can be tricky). :)

And we have funny, techie, clever, witty, silly, et al. We have lots of mpg junkies. When you get that feeling coming on... click on the post "Are you an mpg junkie ?"

We'll try to help you thru the rough parts. 8)

Thanks for the welcome,
The Prius is not my first high MPG vehicle. That was a Toyota starlet, it was a great little car which we bought used. I seem to remember it avg'd in the 40's, then I bought a VW rabbit pickup with the diesel engine. 50 big horses on that baby, you only accelerated by switching gears, the accelerater pedal was more like an on/off button (maybe just a wee bit overstated) but it did get in the high 40's on long trips.

The prius has been amazing us with it's comfort, quiteness, good mpg and techno wizardry. Hope to get some good info from this board
