I have a new ‘05 Prius. I opted for a lesser options
package that did not include the 6CD disk in--dash player.
Instead they offered me a 6CD player accessory that
is installed in the auxiliary space below the audio
unit. It works just fine and can be controlled with
either the steering wheel mounted controls or on the monitor screen.
The salesman did not tell me (I think he did not know), when I ordered the car in early ‘04, that the standard radio came with a single disk CD
player. (I would have been happy with that.)
Upon delivery I asked if the single disk slot could
also be used at the same time as the 6CD changer, and how would
that be handled by the monitor. He did not know. His advice
was to “give it a try and see what happens”. I am
worried that this double player system might get garbled and
a disk get stuck in the single player and never come out.
I also asked at a second dealership and they did not know.
Does anyone have any experience with this? Thanks in advance.

The single disc player in the radio is the primary player. The 6-disc under the radio is a secondary input. The single disc player will hold a cd but not play it if your 6-disc is operational or if you are listening to the radio.

The radio is well designed, what you are describing should not be an issue.

Basically, the first time you hit the 'CD' button, it will go to 'CD' mode, for the internal single-disc player. When you hit 'CD' a second time, it will go into 'CD Changer' mode, for the changer. The screen will change, so you will be able to tell the difference.

If you don't get an answer here, you might ask a local top-end audio shop. Did your dealer maybe farm it out to someone..?
