I have a question. If the driver and passenger are carrying their smart keys, will it have any effect on the system or will it perform as normal and recognise just one of the keys to activate the vehicle?

The Prius will just start as normal.

Just remember that if one key is left in the car (like in a purse under the seat, for example), the car won't let you press the outside door button to lock the doors. But you can use the key fob's lock button, because you're telling the car that you do have a key in your hand and you're not locking your only key in the car.

You have two keys in the car the very first time you drive it. Off the lot.

Just be sure you don't leave one inside or you won't be able to lock the doors. But, if you need to leave one inside you can use an Altoids can as a Faraday cage.
