From what I have read from other online information, the 2004's utilize a different tire than the earlier models.
The earlier models were equiped with tires that had a low LRR (low rolling resistance) value. Having a low LRR along with a higher than normal weight, the factory tires did not last that long.
We have a 2002 Prius with 30,000 miles. We had to replace the tires at 27,000 miles.
From what I have read, the 2004's are equiped with tires that should last around 50,000 miles (if not more).
