My wife took the Prius in for oil and rotation today. She asked them to set the tires to 42/40. The service manager was concerned that might trigger a dash warning light (it obviously hasn't). Does the 04 have a tire pressure sensor?

$40 by the way, for oil and tire rotation. 30 minutes with no appointment needed at the Toyota dealer.

No, tire pressure sensors started with the 2006 model Prius. They are required on all 2007 and later model cars in the US. You can add a tire pressure monitoring system as an aftermarket feature if you desire.

The tire pressure sensors (even if you had them) will only trigger on too low a pressure. They don't care if you blow up your tires.
