I drove a 2015 Prius with only 4K miles on it driving from LAX to San Diego then back again. While driving on the freeway at 70 MPH and keeping up with traffic, I experienced a tire blowout on the rear driver side. I didn't run over anything. It didn't swerve or cause difficulty steering, but I did hear a continuous flapping sound that got me wondering I may have a flat. As I slowed down to pull over to the side of the road, the flapping sound decreased with the drop in speed so I knew it was a flat. Within 10 minutes, a California Hwy tow truck came to my aid, changed my flat and I was on my way with the spare saving me. My question is if blowouts on new factory tires are a common event with a Prius? Anyone else have an experience similar to mine? I have heard that Toyo tires don't last that long, but 4K miles… really?
