TdS Report #41: Autocross Results


After the display in Philadelphia the teams retired to a parking lot at the
Garden State Race Track for the autocross competition and acceleration tests.
Members of the Sports Car Clubs of America (SCCA) set up the course and provide
the timing equipment and spotters.


Success in autocross depends on the handling of the car and the ability of the
driver. A route is laid out on a parking lot using traffic cones. The score
is the time, in seconds, it takes to driver the route, plus 2 seconds for each
cone knocked over or knocked aside. Lower scores are better. "DNF" stands for
Did Not Finish which usually means the driver did not stay within the defined
course.
