One exceptionally neat solution to unwanted stealth encounters that I have seen in normal vehicles is to put a speaker under the hood and a mic in the car.

The car talks and people notice talking cars.

In one of my more sedate moments, I was in that car and we pulled over to the roadside by a dairy farm in Wisconsin. I mooooed long and loud into the mic and dozens of cows crowded to the fence.

My friend noted that I was irresistibly attractive to lactating herbivores.

I smacked him.

cheers, nathan

A while back I recall a post on another board that suggested the Prius have a small speaker mounted near the radiator that would make a "Jetsons" type of noise whenever it goes into stealth. No need for it to be a loud noise.

When cruising parking lots in stealth this could be a good sound. <http://frogstar.thap.ca/wav/files/jetsons5.wav>

This could be a good sound when you pull into your parking space and put the shift lever in "P". <http://frogstar.thap.ca/wav/files/jetsons4.wav>

Cheers,

Ed

PS. This idea of adding electronic noise to electric cars is not new. I test drove the GM EV1 in Arizona a number of years ago. There was a small speaker inside that made a tone that would increase in pitch as your speed increased. It was kind of a speedometer for the ear.

I like that 2nd. one but where can I buy it and how much does it cost????

Don Good

PS. My wife has an old antique brass horn with a Rubber squeeze Ball on the end hanging in our family room. I think it could be mounted somewhere up front but I would need an airtight hose to run back through the car to somewhere near the steering wheel. Sounds like an old Model T Ford when you squeeze it. Anybody got any ideas???

Apparently, the connectors for the NAV output give a signal for the current MPG.. would it be great to make a black box that had a connection to that NAV output and also connected a speaker, so then you can really do those sorts of things!
