SUBARU PLANS ELECTRIC MINICAR FOR JAPAN.
Fuji Heavy Industries Ltd., the maker of Subaru cars, says it will begin selling an electric minicar in Japan in about 2009, reports today’s Nihon Keizai Shimbun.

It says the car, a modified version of the Subaru R1, can run 125 miles on one charge. The car will be powered by a lithium ion battery developed with NEC Corp. that Fuji Heavy says will last 10 years between replacements.

The car, which begins tests on public roads this year, is expected to cost between $13,600 and $18,100, making it 33%-50% more expensive than conventional minicars. Fuji Heavy predicts owners will recoup the difference over the life of the vehicle through government subsidies and lower operating costs.

So that's Mitsubishi and Subaru both going with LiIon cars in the near future... I wonder if Toyota are listening??
