Do you know if these brakes need to be serviced by the dealer, or can a regular brake place do it?
There is nothing abnormal about the front disc and rear drum brakes. Anyone who can do a decent brake job can do a Prius when the time comes.

I would add that it will probably be a long time before that's needed...I have 45000 miles on my 2002 and at the service I was told the brakes still had 80 percent left...

While so, given the mileage on the brakes, you may want to especially consider the condition of the rotor. The wear may have occurred at the rotor ruining its thickness. At the very minimum, a resurfacing of the rotors should be closely considered. This is to make sure that your braking ability is in a rather pristine condition.

I have found it hard to locate the brakes outside of the dealer.
