I hate FOBs. Big bulging plastic thing in my pocket all the time. So I'd like to leave the fob in the car, deactivate the fob sensor socket (off position of conventional ign switch) and use the start position of switch to emulate push button start. Then using a regular non chipped key, open driver's door, insert key into ign switch and turn key to start car. I dont mind pushing the button to shut the car off as turning the key off will not kill the ignition. I have no interest in SKS which I have disabled.

Wow,nobody? I have successfully disabled the fob and chipped key operations on my civic hybrid. A standard plain key is used now so it can be done.

The bulbous key used in Prius v.1 was easier to disable than the honda and it too now uses a plain key. Prius v.3 may require actually buying an electrical service manual, but I"m sure a keyswitch can replace the Button.

If all cars are using a fob, guys with multiple cars must go nutz with different fobs on their keychains. Ladies with a purse probably not so much. Or possibly a bowl or hooks on the wall where assorted fobs are hung and to pick the one to be used today.

So what will be the next thing. A RFID chip embedded under your skin and your cars are programmed to you personally. Now thats security. If you want to let your teenager drive your car, you will either need to be present or they will need to have their own RFID registered to your car.

So thats my pet peeve. Electronics in cars have a place, but why give up the simple key igniton.
