After doing a search, could not find anything on this question.
I cannot get air to blow from the rear A/C vents after pushing all the buttons on the climate control section.

Was rear A/C an option that I apparently do not have or am I missing something else?
Many thanks, this is a great site for a great car.

Rear AC vents? Never heard of them.

On the Classic Prius there are vents on the rear deck. On the 2004+ Prius there are vents to the sides of the rear seats. Neither of them should be covered, as they are air intake vents to heat/cool the batteries. (The batteries operate best at what humans call room temperature, so they steal conditioned air from the passenger cabin.)

There is one vent on the passenger side rear seat, about shoulder level, which is the cooling air intake for the HV battery. Some passengers back there may notice a light breeze when they sit by it, or hear a fan going. This is normal. The vehicle uses interior air, which should be cooler than outside air in warm weather, and warmer than outside air in cooler climates to keep the battery at a proper operating temperature.

In general, if you are comfortable in your car, so is the battery. If you are freezing or have sweat on your brow, the battery is not comfortable either.

There are vents under the front seats that can blow cold air to the back seat. Unfortunately, if you have the AC on Auto these vents are not used. You have to manually set the controls to use both the dash and lower vents. Too bad this is not automatic, we always have to remember to set this when we have back seat passengers.

Cold air being heavier than hot air, floor level venting would make A/C less efficient, unless your passengers have unusually hot feet.

Cold air is just going to hover around your rear passenger's feet, which isn't all that effective at cooling the rear seat area. In fact, I doubt if the rear passengers get any significant benefit from that. Don't try to pipe air to the back seats, just run the A/C a little more aggressively and your rear seat passengers should feel just fine.

I have tried it both ways. Instead of theorizing, try asking your passengers on a really hot day (95-100 and much hotter when you first get in the car) when they first get in the car which way they like better. Mine have all said: even directly cooled feet is better than trying to get the AC on full blast to get relief to the back set. I live in LA. Your experiences may be different.

They really should have a vent in the back that works off the dash air.

As a new owner (living in Michigan) I will absolutely defer to your real world experience. But I do know, that is why A/C system are designed that way.

Um, how do you do this? I see buttons on the climate screen for front and rear defrost, but nothing for front and rear cabin vents.... am I missing something?

On the MFD hit climate. Then push the "button" that shows arrows blowing both high and low. The auto A/C will continue to work, but including the low vents. Heat automatically will use the low vents, but cold will not.

Ah. For some reason I thought there was separate operation of the front and back low vents... this makes sense!

Have no fear, your rep is secure with bear. By the time I got to your explanation, my brain had seized, and my eyes glazed over.

All I want is one button that says "COOL" and a second one that says "HEAT"... and one digital dial that varies from LOW to HIGH. (digital accuracy is great but I do not want to push/hold it for 5-10 times in 2 degree increments, arghhhhhh)

Dear Toy designers--...LOVE your car, but simplify, simplify.
