We were pre-approved for our Prius. Someone at the dealership today said that it was nearly impossible to get approved for a car loan for the Prius and that most 'purchases' were leases. I don't think my credit is particularly good but I qualified for a loan.

Does anyone know of any difficulties getting a car loan for the Prius? If so, is it because the technology is new and relatively untested so no-one wants to lend the money? Or is this person wrong about this?!! :?

Very Painless Loan

I purchased mine via a loan, using Toyota Financial Services.

Not only was it painless, but they included a LoJack and Platimun
Service level for the life of the loan (6 yrs) as part of a pkg
deal. Decent APR too, no worse than my last car's ('93 Corolla).

Toyota couldnt wait to give me a loan so I could buy mine. They didnt even do a credit check.

Your dealer is giving you a load of bull. You still have to have some sort of credit to LEASE too.

Try another Toyota Dealer, or call another and let them know what you have been told.

Better yet, try your local Credit Union.

Actually for the used 2002 model I bought, the dealer actually told us you had to have a HIGHER credit rating in order to lease the car than to buy it. Actually I'm glad I bought it...now I can consider installing cruise control later. I'm finding so much good info all around the web for the Prius. Those who bitch seem to want something that zooms up to 60mph in 7 seconds, which IMHO is SO not important.

And john, thanks SO much for the tire recommendations...I saved the info on my computer for when my Prius hits that 30K mark!

Leases are harder. Buys are easier.

Leasing is a little harder to do as they require good to great credit history. Most anyone might guess why this is, but bottom line, financing Prius is not any different than buying/financing Camry or Corolla or Sienna etc...

I think your dealer was stroking your ego a little. They had nothing to gain by lying.
