The European New Car Assessment has crash-tested the 2004 Toyota Prius recently; the first time they have tested a hybrid vehicle. The Prius was one of a few cars to receive a presteigous 5-star rating in the test. The test is far more rigorous than the U.S. government test, by using a frontal-offset crash rather than a frontal full wrap. Also, the side impact test is supplemented with a pole test to check the effectiveness of the side-curtain airbags. The Prius scored perfectly in the side impact test, and 88% of perfect in the frontal crash. Put shortly, the Prius scored higher than the 2003/4 Mercedes Benz E class, the 2003/4 Saab 9-5, the 1998-2004 Audi A6, the 1998-2003 BMW 5 series, the 2000-2004 Volvo S80, the 2004 Volvo S40, the 2003/4 Saab 9-3, the list is extensive. This is a very strong merit for the Prius and a concluding piece of evidence to prove wrong anyone who believes that the Prius is not safe (for simply being a smaller car, or having current run through it). Bravo to the hard-working and dedicated engineers at Toyota! They have built a very strong car with the safety of the passenger in mind; this is one more reason we can all be proud to drive a Toyota :D Full test information is available at ... =3&id2=193
