I drove a[nother] rental for 900 miles over the weekend in New Mexico. Here are the mileage results from that trip:

1. First leg. 240 mi. 80 mph. Gradual drop of 700 ft. in elevation (4000 ft. to 3300 ft.). High wind, 100+ deg., A/C running: 47 mpg.

2. Next leg. 100 mi. 55 mph. Flat. No wind, 106 deg., A/C running: 61 mpg.

3. Next leg. 200 mi. 55 mph. Gradual rise of 4000 ft. in elevation (3300 ft. to 7300 ft.). No wind, 100+ deg., A/C running: 49 mpg.

4. Next leg. 100 mi. (short way back) 55 mph. Gradual drop of 4000 ft. in elevation (7300 ft. to 3300 ft.). No wind, 100+ deg., A/C running: 55 mpg.

5. Next leg. 60 mi. 60 mph. Flat. No wind, 85 deg., A/C running: 66 mpg.

6. Next leg. 240 mi. 75 mph. Gradual rise of 700 ft. (3300 ft. to 4000 ft.). High wind, 105+ deg. A/C running: 45 mpg. My wife, who HATES Prii for some inexplicable reason, was driving. And driving it just like she does her Honda Odyssey. I went to sleep because I couldn't bear to watch.

Treat these data as accurate, but anecdotal, not scientific; I did not keep a log. Distances are rounded to the nearest 20 miles or so, and mileage is as indicated by the Multi-Function Display.
