At approximately 8300 miles the "maint. req" light starting coming on . It goes off after a few seconds. Book says this means it's time to change the oil. I don't want to change the oil! It's not due until 10,000 miles. My dealer says to chage it every 3000 miles, Toyota says every 5,000. I changed it at 3000, then at 5000. At that time I put in Mobil 1 synthetic. Can this light be turned off? Did the dealer program it? I don't intend to change it until 10,000 miles, and I don't want to be told every time I start the car to change the oil! Ther may be some info hidden in the owner's manual, but finding stuff in there is damn near impossible sometimes. Dan probably knows off the top of his head.

If the light is in blink mode at 8300, that means it was reset at 3800.

The maint light will blink at 4500 miles from last reset, and become steady at 5000 from reset.

Your owner's manual has instructions on how to reset the light. You can't change the interval at which the light will be triggered.

and as Dan said - it'll start blinking at 4500 miles since last reset, and will stay solid at 5000 miles since last reset.
