OK - I just got my Prius (yea!). I'm very happy so far, considering I have not done any more than drive it around the block. Tomorrow it goes on the whole 5 mile drive to work!

I am trying to be a good, informed owner and read the manual cover to cover.

The first thing that caught my attention was a big bold attention block that basically said that you should not leave the Prius sitting off for more than 2 weeks. The manual recommends that the car is turned on for at least 30 minutes every 2 weeks.

OK - so now the problem. My family and I travel overseas at least once every 2 or 3 years, and we usually go for 4 weeks or more.

Does anyone know what is the recommended storage procedure if the car will not be used for a time longer than 2 weeks? I could see nothing in the manual on a recommendation, although I have not read it fully through, only looked in the TOC and Index for the info.

I can't believe I am the only one who would be worried about this...2 weeks seems like a very short time.

The only other option is to find a Prius baby sitter - is this a potentially new job market???

:D

OK - I guess if I waste enough time surfing the net I can answer my own questions!

I found a thread on Priuschat.com that said you should disable the smart entry system with a button under the steering wheel, and then close the car door and lock it with the key.

I am guessing that will reduce the drain on the battery considerably and allow the car to collect dust for several weeks.

Has anyone tried this? How long have you been able the leave the car and come back to a fully functioning system?

I assume this method does not disable the alarm as well...
