(1) What is Inverter Coolant? My 2002 Owners Manual has no mention of it, but the schedule maintanence shows to change it at 30K, 60K, etc.

(2) For Engine Coolant, is a special type of coolant required? I had mine replaced by a non-dealer, and they used an ethylene-glycol type coolant; is that OK?

Are these two coolants different?

Thanks for the help!

The car uses the same coolant for the inverter as it does for the engine.

For the classic, it uses the Long Life Coolant (LLC) which still needs replacement every 30K. Its color is red. Engine takes 5.2 quarts, inverter takes 2.9 quarts. It is very important that the inverter system be properly bled to remove all air bubbles, otherwise you could burn out the inverter.

The 2Gs use Super Long Life Coolant (S-LLC) which only needs replacement first 100K, 50K thereafter. Its color is pink. Engine coolant circuit takes 9.0 quarts (part of it stored in the heat storage tank) and the inverter takes 2.9 quarts.
