Tomorrow is the D-Day ! I will have my "Sunroof" installed ! Along with the Leathers. I hate that fussy cloth material especially in Tan interior. Pics,Pics, coming up for everyone to see.... If my work schedule permits, I would like to go and see the whole process beguinning with the roof aperture ( Cut the roof ) I'm anxious......and Nervous......but it is done in my friends place that beeing doing this roof and leathers for the last 16 or so years since I met the Operator and owner...and still doing business with him so I got to trust him ? !

Hello to All 04~09 PriusCentis !

Do I have news for you all ! My specialty accessories aftermarket specialist the "Coach Automotive of Northern CA" has come up finally with the Super- Sunroof for the HSD Prius. ! At $1295.00 plus tax !

It has the roof curvature and all, looks fantastic it retracts, lifts up Glass MoonRoof with inner shade. .

Trying to take pics of the Roof and upload so you all can see.

This entity, the Coach Automotive, does all my
sumptuous leather conversion in any color and multi-colored such as two toned center perforation and heated seats.

and as well as the regular Sunroofs for the Toyota line of vehicles.
The Prius Sunroofs took so long in developing the Roof due to the unusual shape of the Prius domed-roof.

They have purchased a Prius to work on test benching the development of the Roof and finally the Sunroof is created. More news later on the price.

The ultra-slippery shape of the roof line is retained and should be no reduction on the CD of the original Prius.

Anyone can bring in their Prius and have it done ! The Coach Automotive is located in CA North !

Also you can convert the inside of your Prius with the "Sumptuous Leathers" Done in any way you prefer.

Order reserve your 06 Prius then if desired add the "Sunroof"
Then there is a way to customize your Prius interior
with a Sumptuous Leather done in "Two Tone" even upgradable with
_Perforated_ seating area and also a _Heated_Seats_ for a price so
let talk upgrades later if needed, but in meantime send in your request
today for the Sunroofs and Leathers!

To be honest, $1995 for sunroof (even if it is moonroof) is steep.
Therefore, it has to match the curve of Prius roof to match that cost!
Naturally, picture is needed.
Coach Automotive in Fremont?.. I sent them three emails for leather interior installation and quote. Not a single response. I wondered if they had closed. Apparently not. Not a big fan of their business practice.

$2K for a friggin, moonroof!?!?! You gotta be kidding me.

I have had a moonroof on like my last 4 or 5 cars, plus our other current
car besides the Prius has one, for the amount of time I use them, I wouldn't pay $300 for the moonroof on the Prius. For most of us, I would imagine a moonroof is one of those things that sounds better than it is. We like the idea of it, but we don't actually use it very much. At least not since I was like 20 yrs old.

Spike

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Opinion alert!

I suppose I'm in the minority, however I just don't see the logic to moon roofs or sun roofs. I've seen the mechanism for them a number of times and frankly it seems like a Rhub Goldberg to me. The motors, wiring, switches, track, and gearing when viewed in the buff don't give me a great deal of confidence in long term reliability. I'm not assuming that manufacturers aren't making them to be reliable, but I just don't trust them to work properly for the length of time I tend to keep cars. On top of the mechanism itself, there are the seals and drainage track that has to be added to the mechanism in order to deal with various weather conditions. How many stories of leaking sunroofs have I heard and the problem with weather stripping, but clogged drain track. Imagine how difficult it is to clean clogged drain track. That depends on how long the track is and how it is configured, but it could require as little as shoving a long pipe cleaner down it to removing the headliner to to the track to clean it out.

Anyway, if I want air running through my hair and the feeling of uncovered motoring, I'll opt for a convertible any day. There are lots of really nice convertibles being built now (Mustang, Beetle, and so forth) that would fill my fix of open air driving, if I had such a desire. Who knows, maybe in the future.

HI Ceric. You know why they did not respond ? The are wholeseller installer for CA dealers. They do not deal with Non-Dealer referred customers direct. They only do works if for instance: I tell them do this job for a client....or refer a customer to them direct coming from me...

I didn't intend to vent my anger of them at you.
It is nice to know that they don't deal with "little guy" like me. However, maybe you should tell them someday to respond to emails like mine with a one-liner,
"Sorry, we don't do retail installation".
That would have saved me two emails after the first one.

I have been to Fremont Toyota a couple times and have seen your commercials on Japanese-language TV channel. Maybe I will say hi to you someday when my Prius goes in for service.

On moonroof, I am not a big fan, either.
The one on my Bimmer broke twice within two years (under warranty, $2000 each on paper). Both times, the cable snapped (don't ask me). The tech said I used it too much (guity here. I popped it out 1 inch for venting in hot summer). Now, everytime I use it, I pray because my Bimmer is out of warranty now...

Actually, and I have had only factory installed sunroofs for a long long time. I have never had leakage. I have had friends and family with leakage, but to my recollection (and I could be wrong) they were all aftermarket installed units. On my 238,000 mile at trade in Camry, it had a factory installed sunroof, and it never leaked a drop -- ever. It was never serviced either, never had an issue. And while I rarely drove with it open, see previous post, I used it a lot during the summer. I would pop it up a little bit to keep the interior from building up too much heat.

I hardley ever drove with it open, 'cause I hated the wind noise it created for not much air flow. I would rather use the AC and get a nice reasonable temperature. In someways it is hotter with the moonroof open, because now you have the sun beating down on your head. Forget it if you are follically challenged.

For $2k, I just wouldn't install an aftermarket sunroof. Unless you know you will use it often.

But Ricky is in the business of selling cars and the sunroof is an off times request on most cars today. There are parts of the country where they are used for comfort continuously. The wind noise can usually be cancelled out by the use of a small air dam type spoiler.
Two grand in the aftermarket for one moulded for the Prius top is probably a fair price for this type of installation which if offered by the factory would be between $395 and five hundred dollars.
Folks requesting this obviously don't consider money spent for what they want in a hybrid is wasted.

I like the idea of a moon/sun roof but not at 2G. Plus, just yesterday I had to apply duct tape around the perimeter of my GF's sun roof on her 2003 Honda CRV. Warranty expired at 36,000 and the extended warranty probably will not cover it.

I agree with the forum at $2G it is a touchy little too much ? But consider this: For a long time we were saying the Sun/Moonroof installation application is not possible due to the "Unusual" shape of the Prius roof lines. It is curved upwards and according to my Vendor, the time and money they have spent in engineering the Sunroof cost them big time. They even had to purchase a Prius so they can tinker, the trial and experiment for the Sunroof implementation/fabrication. The numbers are low for the time beeing but when 40 roof installed already will go to the 100s then the price will come downwards. I, myself purchased a "Private"
use Prius ! ( Non-Company my _DEMO_ or Customers baby-sitting Prius )
but my very own ! and I'm going to commision the "Coach" people to install me the Sunroof and the Leathers done in Two-Tone-with Center Perforation as well. The PICS, I know the PICS will be coming soon ! I should have not _Mentioned_ or open my big mouth !

Cheers every one and have a nice New Year's Eve Party ! Prosperity and healthy happy life ahead, these are my wishes for all PriusCentis out there ! A Happy New Year... Don't over do it.....Drive careful...and keep on posting to the forum.

Oh Hi Ceric-San ! Ye I did talked to the Outfits owner and my friend and told him that not answering emails is bad ! He did apologised and said to me that he was not reading the emails ! So big apology to you in his behalf ! I have not ever heard that Toyota procured parts from its affiliated suppliers in this case the Sunroof parts manufacturer ( Japanese sourced parts ) Toyota does demand a very high and quality parts from their affilliated parts maker. When Toyota has to buy the parts from let say: A GM, Ford,Chrysler parts suppliers; Toyota Engineers will go to their
plants and if parts beeing manufactured for the Toyota brands found to be not to Toyotas quality and standard, The Toyota Engineers will advise/educate the parts manufacturers Engineering staff and teach them for "Free" to make a better and durable parts including for the Big threes !
So Toyota parts are durable and won't be having that early metal fatigue of you Bimmer Sunroof ! Toyota's Motto: DQR= Durable, Quality, Reliable ! and Toyota's Hybrid Synergy Drive is NVH free ! No Noise, no Vibration, no Harshness, Smooth running hybrid......

cheak any weep holes too, see that they aren't plugged up somehow. Talk to your local Honda shop, they might be able to get it covered depending on what is the problem.

Thanks for the help. Even taped up it still allows some water in but, not as much. Big Big storm coming our way Friday and Saturday. I hope those drain holes are not plugged.

Oft requested sure, but my point was that how many people actually use them. It seems to be one of those things we think we will use, and then don't really. A $2k option is tough on a $25k car. As far as for comfort, since nearly every car sold today comes with AC, it is hard to argue that the moon roof is a comfort item. If you want it, fine, but to argue it is a comfort item is tough. Doesn't prode any more wind than rolling down the window. Like I said, I have had one on every one of my last half dozen or so cars, prior to the Prius. The first couple, 'cause I wanted it, the last couple, because I was buying top of the line models, and they came with them automatically.
I tried the air dams on two cars. In those two cases, the wind noise with the sunroof open was indeed significantly lessened. However, I found the wind noise when the sunroof was closed was slightly increased. Since most of the time the roof is closed, it didn't make any sense to withstand the louder sound for most of the driving for less sound on occassional driving.
$395 - $500 would certainly be more reasonable. Certainly I personally would feel better about paying $2k for a factory system, than $500 for an aftermarket version. Just for the piece of mind. To pay $2k for an aftermarket version, and then have to worry about problems down the road; is not me. Unless it was something I really really wanted.

And yes, I know even at $2,000 people will certainly pay it. That wasn't my argument. People want what the want, and will pay the price. People pay tens of thousands to covert their non convertible cars into convertibles, when the manufacturer doesn't offer it from the factory. People pay tens of thousands for the wheels and sound system they want as well.

It just reminds me of my last apartment before we bought. about 70 -75 units if I remember correctly. We had a nice pool in the main courtyard. There were only 3 or 4 of us that used it ever (including this Brazillian girl with a bikini the size of a postage stamp...., but I digress). I remember talking to the manager about it on more than one occassion. And how even though I liked it, and used it, and liked to be able to come home on a hot night and go for a swim, it would seem to make more sense to fill it in and do like a picnic area or a kid's playground. Since the expense of maintining it and heating it in the winter was certainly substantial. She was un hesitant in her response that it she would never suggest that to the owners. That having the pool was just a HUGE selling point to prospective renters -- even though 95% would never use it, most like the idea of having it. And made living choices based on it. I suggest moonroofs are the same. Lots of people like the idea of having one, and ohh and ahh when you show off that your new car has one, but few of us actually use one on a regular basis.

Spike << might pay $2k for a convertible Prius, unquestionably would if it were done by Toyota

There again, sun-roofs are a personal matter. For five years of commuting from Boston to New York once a week I enjoyed the one in my 325 BMW 2/3rds of the year. Much quieter than an open window and far more economical than using the A/C.
Kept me awake on that 230 mile drive at 2 AM in the morning and was so desirable an option that I would personally have a factory option done on any new car I could get one on. But most of the after market jobs I have seen would be unacceptable and $2,000 would not make any sense at all, but you also have to take into consideration that there are a lot of Prius purchasers who spent as much as $5,000 over list just to get a Prius and I expect Rickey will send more than a few of his buyers in for the modification.

Hi Hyperion, Happy New Year ! I remember when I had to go to Boston from N.Y.C. using the Mass Turnpike especially in the Spring-Summer time the green sceanery was fantastic to see ! I did not know the distance were only 230 miles. I thought that it took me for-ever to reach Boston ! Yes I did opened up the "Sunroof" with the "Air-Dam" on it and it was much quiter than opening up the side windows. The Sunroof also works as vacuum in sucking away the "Bad Air" thus inside vehicle's cabin is fresh smelling ! Also nowdays, there is not such things a s "Factory" installed or
done later by a a independent shop. be it factory or after the fact they use the same Sunroof procured either from: Webasto/Hollandia or the Japanese made Sunroofs which I do not know the "Marque"..... Yes the cost advantage when Toyota does it in balks priced lower. at around $900 Power tilt/and slide. Not the $400~$500 as you mention. So $1995 probably not as good as the $900 factory cost but it is a Custom Job and very distinctive, Your Prius has Roof that were not available from 01 to 06
now can be installed on the HSD Prius of 04-06 ! It is, different stroke for different folks ! Some say reasonable some say too much ! It the same as the Prius buyers that pays MSRP and others trying to get it for under $5000 off list ! So it is matter or perceived value, individual perspective...

Looks good...

Nice looking installation including the two-tone leather seats. The sun roof looks like a factory installation verses some of the cheap "cut a hole in the roof" jobs I seen that were after market.

The question I have is rear seat head room. From the side picture, it appears that the sliding hatch window has a serious initial slope downward. In my opinion, the stock Prius has good or at least adequate head room in the back seat. Do you notice much difference with this installation?

Hi ElectronMotion, Yes have sat in the rear cabin area and looked at the headliner and very nice job. The headliner has no visible difference from stock Prius. I made sure that everything is A1 Quality. Especially, when I'm installing to my "Own" Prius. Will measure the floor to roof factory vs my Sunroof Prius when my 06 shipments comes in and will post the dimension difference, For now rear seat area's headroom is not much diiferent when I sit in the back. More on this...Later

The Sunroof one of its kind to perfectly match the curved contour of the 04 to 06 Prius sculptured roof shape. I have installed to my own 04 Prius see first page.

Not too sure about the two-tone leather (I like the '06 stock leather, though,) but the sunroof is amazing.

If it doesn't decrease rear-seat headroom by too much, I think I'll start saving now. Leather and sunroof were my wife's only two complaints when we got our '04.

Hello ehurtley, Rear-Seat headroom Ok, probably headroom decrease 1"
to 2" perhaps. I have sat in the back my head barely touches the roof.
Intentionally drive vehicle lookin' for wind-noise but can not hear any. Very high quality job. I'm very satisfied !

The two toned Leathers with center perforation + "Therapeudic" back heater very confortable and soothing sansation while driving in cold season, not mentionin' the "Bum heater" as well ! No need to go all the _Way_ customise it any way you like.

Cheers.

I'll be off this Sunday so I will be taking lots of Pics, and Pics so I can upload to this site, Stay tuned so you can see them !

Oh what a feelings to own a Prius, with Sunroof and leathers !

Hello to All 04~06 PriusCentis !

Do I have news for you all ! My specialty accessories aftermarket specialist the "Coach Automotive of Northern CA" has come up finally with the Super- Sunroof for the HSD Prius. ! At $1995.00 plus tax !
