I have just taken delivery of a brand new Prius, and I'd like to figure out how best to protect all that plastic on the top of the dashboard/instrument panel. Here in Sydney we get lots of UV in summer, which I'm sure will fade and eventually crack all that exposed plastic. I considered buying or making a dashmat (e.g. appropriately shaped piece of slim carpet) to cover the top of the dash area, but it appears that the passenger airbag pops out of the top of the dash area, so I'm concerned that a dashmat would block the airbag.

Has anyone got a recommendation how to protect the top of the dash area - either physical protection, or protective coating, etc ?

Thanks for everyone's advice.
