So I noticed a curious phenomena and I wonder what everyone's thoughts are on it.
I recently took a short trip (1 1/2 hours) and it is really hilly. pretty even ups for every down.
Well anyway, I did 65 thinking I would save gas. I averaged about 44mpg. I decided to see what would happen if I switched to the speed limit, and I started averaging higher, a good 50-52mpg. So I drove like that for a while, confirmed it, and switched back to 65, and the mpg dropped again.
My theory is that the added speed on the downhill causes the car to use less gas on the uphill.
thoughts?
