:?: We're picking up our new 2005 Prius later this week, but the #2 package doesn't include HID headlights. Does anyone know if Halogen lights can be retrofit, and what parts are required? :?:

You have halogens. The beam pattern is very good (razor cutoff and more light up to the right, Euro style). I needed the greater brightness of HID for my lousy night vision, but many don't. Retrofitting is expensive, requiring ballasts as well as bulbs. Buying them retail might hit a grand. Your best bet would be to get them off a totalled, rear-ender, which is a longshot.

You also need the beam leveler and the sensor for the rear of the car so it can detect the level of the car (added weight in the rear will adjust beam level).

Do U.S. models have this leveler? How does it change the level? Does this mean the entire assembly is a different part than the Halogen's?

Grave robber!

On the other hand, you could make sure the battery and all systems are still on life support, and (after asking politely) take the lights. You probably have to keep them on ice, race them by helicopter or sled team or something to your waiting Prius, and install under sterile lab (or standard poodle) conditions.

Or, have chocolate handy to revive the patient. ::::swoon::::
