O.K., I'm a new owner (yeah!), and am trying to figure some things out. One thing that struck me was that in the GPS setup, there's a place to set the time zone and to set if it's daylight savings time (DST) or not. Why? There isn't any place to set the time in the GPS system, so why does it care what timezone I'm in or about DST?

Any ideas?

Thanks

The GPS satellites transmit the current UCT (aka GMT with a 13 second difference). To get to your current time, the NAV needs to know your timezone and whether or not you're in daylight savings. I'm not sure why they can't figure out your timezone from your location (though if it could see only one satellite, it could receive UCT and still not know where you are).
