I'm seriously thinking to buy the '05 Toyota Prius, but this morning a friend of mine sent me this link to the New York Times in which there is an article that says that the Toyota Prius is the subject of a government investigation into reports that the engine can stall without warning.

Last year I bought a car (not a Toyota) that as soon as I bought it there was a recall and I had many problems since then.

I don't want to have another car with recalls and problems that actually you have to spend more time at the dealer servicing the car than enjoying it.

So, I wanted your comments to see if this is a valid concern, or if anybody knows anything else about this investigation.

For those who want to read the whole article: http://www.nytimes.com/2005/06/02/busin ... 0&emc=eta1

Thanks!

See the other threads below....

The one marked "suspicious", the one about "unexpected shutdown", etc...

In a nutshell, it's NOT a huge problem, and we are wondering why they are making a big deal out of something that has been known about and fixed long ago. The 2005 Prius shouldn't have a problem, as the fix is built in, from what I understand. Even without it, it's basically a computer bug that rarely happens. I think someone on here calculated that it's about a .003% occurrence rate.

You'll be hard pressed to find a more reliable car than a Prius.

Oh, for Heaven FRIGGIN' SAKES! Now there are, what, three? four? ongoing threads in progress on this topic?

:::end of spleen venting:::

Sorry Sanny... I did do a search on engine stall and none of the postings that you mentioned, came up.

Others did, but I read some of them, and they did not seem to talk about this new article that just came out today or any other goverment investigation.

So again, sorry to bother you, it was not my intent. And at the same time, thanks for the link to other postings, so I can read about them.

And why is the Prius any different than the millions of other cars in this respect? Over the last 100+ years a lot more cars have "stalled" without warning per year then the total number of Prius's have been built.

If you are really concerned about stalling, I suggest that you not buy a motorized vehicle. You should consider a human-powered mode of transportation.

Uh-oh, you'd better see if there is a "recall" out from the manufacturer/designer!
There is - I read the announcement - but the mfg hasn't announced the date of the recall yet. It's supposed to be a surprise. ;)
