As with all things Prius, we've needed patience, but the hybrid movement is gathering momentum. I've been showing off my Prius and giving rides and test drives for almost 1.5 years now, hoping it would appeal to others. But of course people rarely need a new car, so I didn't get much feedback. And often people don't realize they need a new car until they NEED a new car. Then it's too late to wait for a Prius.

However, since the beginning of this year, two of my friends have bought Prius! Both the same color as mine (silver). One friend surprised me by driving up in his new Prius. The other gave me a couple weeks warning (she was told it would take a month, but it didn't take so long).

Anyway, in my little universe, hybrids are noticably gathering momentum!

I agree things appear to be picking up. We now have 3 Prius in the parking lot at work and I've seen two new ones driving in our neighborhood.

Have not seen any Brilliant Blue except for mine, however...

Yep. My wife actually saw an ad from a Toyota dealer advertising that they had the Prius in stock!

Also, I found myself behind another green Prius a few weeks ago. After the usual honking and waving, we started honking and waving again when we recognized each other as neighbors!

Re: escalating interest in hybrids

I ordered my Prius just before the Katrina-Rita double-whammy and got delivery in about three weeks. The storms, plus allocations of 2005s being finished, puts the waiting list back up to six months, says the sales manager. Here we go again.

Two of my professors at my college drive a Prius. They both approve of my car choice. I find that other drivers in New York, however, either don't notice me or aren't friendly.

People not waving to each other -- IN NEW YORK!
