In this month's C&D there's a nice minireview of the new Ford Escape HEV. What's interesting is the part where they mention that "Ford has combined the motor, generator, and brain module into a much tighter package than Toyota, suggesting future use in more models".

Looking at the engine in the picture provided, I can't get over how small it is. It's seems to be somewhere between 1/3 and 1/4 the size of the 2.3L 4 cylinder main engine.

They also note that the Escape has a tachometer that can slide back past 0 rpms to indicate electric only motoring. That also seems like a smart idea as well.

Of course, to get the consumption information, you have to splurge for the extra navigation/stereo package. IMO Ford should include that as a standard like we have with the Prius.

All in all, it looks to be a nice car.
