I have a 2006 Black Prius Package #7 -- I was wondering if there is a mod out to turn the screen into a DVD player? I know it won't play DVD data discs, so I was wondering if anyone knew of a place that had something to tweak it? I'm thinking after the 1 year warranty expires :p

Hey, Phish Phood,

What 1 Year warranty? Don't you have 3 years or 36,000 miles? Is it shorter for the new MFD screen because of the rear camera or something, or has the overall '06 warranty changed? I hear that they dropped the 3 year Toyota Roadside Assistance program start'g with the '06 Prius & I don't know about the tire road hazard warranty for the '06.

Why would you mess with the electronics of an electronically complicated masterpiece of engineering? Just enjoy the car & get yourself one of those portable DVD players to place on the passenger seat or the dashboard once you've parked the car. The added advantage of that is you can take it inside your new destination when you get there (out of the blinding sun).

So, Michelle,

If (for my "05 order) I had gotten a Pkg 5 or Pkg 6, those same 2 items would have been covered for 3 years or 36,000 miles, but if I had them added to any other option (even though they're the same Toyota parts installed by Toyota people) they would only be covered for 1 year (or 12,000 miles?)? It doesn't seem fair!

I can see maybe, if a customer got them from his dealer's parts dept & put them in by himself, how he could have done something wrong & caused some damage that Toyota felt they would NOT be responsible for. But I would think that if the accesories showed up on the window sticker or on the original purchase order, that Toyota should extend to the customer the same warranty period for those items as for the rest of the car. Under those conditions only, that would be the fairest course of action.

What does anybody else think, & do you think that would make enough sense to Toyota for them to consider it?

Toyota might not (they didn't install it), but the dealer or distributer sure should. That's a point to bring up to Toyota about the SE shenanigans.

I really have no clue :p I saw 1 year for accessories, I figured the Navi was part of it. I paid for the extended 7 year/100,000 mi warranty but who knows what that even covered. At some point I recall hearing, blah blah blah, and blah...

it's 1 year, 12,000kms if the accessory is installed afterwards and not at time of delivery (I think there are also other tiny details).

Anyway, yeah you need a video controller and a DVD player that'll plug into the controller.
