Poking around the Web for information, it seems (surprise, surprise) that the story was sensationalized, probably due to the celebrity element. The story stated that the house was burned to the ground, but it was only damaged. The report that firefighters "see this kind of thing with electric cars all the time" was completely made up. None of the firefighters answering the alarm had ever heard of an EV causing a fire before. Etc.
