So here's a question I don't think has been covered on here much or at all...

1) What color Prius do you have?

2) Was that your first CHOICE, or first AVAILABLE with the option package you wanted.

In other words, are you HAPPY, or COPING with the color you have.

And maybe someone can explain to me...

Tideland Pearl. http://www.prius.com shows it as being sort of a pastel green color. Yet, when people have posted pics of it, it's like a very deep charcoal grey.
Does anybody with a tideland pearl truly have a GREEN car? Did the color change when it hit production?

To answer my own question, I had ORIGINALLY requested the Milennium SIlver Prius, but turns out someone else had snagged that one first so I was told I could be next in line for the NEXT silver, OR take the Black that was coming in the same day. My main request had been that I get package 9 AND a grey/burgandy interior, so I leapt on it. Turns out, that although it's an INCREDIBLE b*tch to keep clean, I wouldn't have been truly happy with my silver Prius... The dark tint I have and chrome wouldn't have quite the same... uumph they do against black.

Ha! Good question. I had been holding out for a silver with grey interior and the number 9 package. I mentioned this in another thread, but I had expected the car by now. My wife and I have a road trip planned for the end of the month, and of course I'm dying to have the Prius and enough time to get to know it before then. I called my sales guy two weeks ago, he said he could get me a green one with pkg. 9 at MSRP this month (next week).

While I was on the phone I pulled up the official prius site and I was looking at the green, and it was just too soft for my taste. Especially when I wanted the nice, clean, modern silver/grey combo. I told him I had seen this "other green" that seemed much darker, more grey and that I actually prefered that to the silver. He said some people perceived the green as a grey with hints of green. I was scratching my head. The sample on their own site just didn't say that to me at all. That's when I stumbled across this forum and I found TechnoMage's site with some picks of his tideland pearl. Hmm...same name, but those colors are so different and hey, that's the color I've been seeing around town and wishing I had picked!

So I voted that I comprimised, but in the end I'm actually getting the body color that I like best. I am settling on the tan interior, but also the more I see it the more I like the contrast. There is a tideland pearl, with the tan interior (it's the only option for that body color) around the block from my house. I must walk by it twice a day to oogle it until mine comes. There's also a blue and a black '04 that park in the lot right outside my office. They both have the tan interior and I'm starting to dig it, but deep down I'm a monochromatic kinda guy.

Interesting that you compromised on the one aspect I refused to. I test drove the white with tan, package 9 in Cerritos , CA and HATED the tan interior from square one. Over the course of my car shopping experience I considered a Pontiac Grand Prix for a short time, and the concept of a two-tone interior (grey dash, tan other stuff) seriously bugged me...

The tideland thing IS INDEED a mystery.
Anyone know the WHOLE STORY behind it? John, Michelle or BIF perhaps?

tideland something

The chip in the brochure looked green. The picture on the website looked green. I am the only one who calls my car green. If you catch it in the sun it glitters a light grey green. Otherwise it is a nice shade of grey. Don't even think green or you will be diappointed.

My previous car (non-Prius) was "medium grey metallic", so I wouldn't personally call Tideland "grey". However, it IS darker than what was pictured on-line; possibly due to either studio lighting and/or alteration in Photoshop or some such. Here's mine; while I did adjust it (slightly), this is very close to actual - other Tideland owners can confirm/deny this at their leisure. 8)

Wanted Seaside Pearl and got it. Almost took the first offer of a dealer demo in Silver, but I can't get excited about the silver; no matter how I looked at it, it looked "dead" and cheerless, colorless, like wet concrete.
The next day, I got a call from a guy ( on another chatline I particpate in) who lived in a city about 200 miles from me, telling me that my exact color and option package was sitting on the lot unclaimed. One quick phone call and credit card deposit, and the car was mine at MSRP.
The Tideland does look like wet sand most of the time. It's only green in strong sunlight, othewise, charcoal grey. Interesting color, and my third choice.

I originally wanted the seaside, but upon seeing it in person and seeing the tideland, I decided to go with the tideland. I would never have been interested in the tideland by looking at Toyota's site. The green they represented is not even close. It also helped that my wife liked the tideland the best as well.

I wanted a Silver Bc/#9 and nothing else. So that is what I got, no matter how long I would have waited.

On US Prius, the paint color code can be found on the door jamb label. It's in the C/TR: field. I think this plate may also be underhood (under-bonnet) in some locations.

Yes, I still have color envy. Canada had this nice Brilliant Blue Pearl offered for the 2001 model year (a deep blue), but it wasn't available in the US, so I settled for the Aqua Ice Opalescent.

Then for the 2002 model year Toyota USA got the Brilliant Blue Pearl color...

My mother preferred the Aqua Ice Opalescent color, but she didn't want to completely copy me when she got her 2002 Prius, so instead she got the Brilliant Blue Pearl color.

I envy her Prius' color, she envies mine.

My husband is very happy with his Black 2004, Pioneer order. He's always wanted a Black car, and the 2004 Prius looks very sharp in the black!

I'm not sure how to answer the poll question, and didn't want to water-down the results, so I witheld my vote. But here's an explanation:

I had decided up front that if I couldn't have a "bright red" car (My last four cars have been red), then I would be happy with any light color, mostly because it's so hot here in Florida.

When I saw the red pearl on a Camry or Corolla (I can't remember which), I decided that it was too dark.

So I told my dealer I'd be happy with Blue, White, or Silver. But truth be told, if a gold, dark red, or black one were to come in, I probably would have gone for any of them, as long as it had the curtain airbag option. When a silver one came in, I wasn't disappointed.

As it is, I'm very happy with my silver and grey/burgundy interior. In my opinion, it's more high-tech than the brown interior.

So I guess the correct answer is that I don't have "color envy," because my color (bright red) isn't even available.

OK here goes. My first list I said Tideland Pearl only. Then my second list was any color but white. Then after that my next 3 lists were Driftwood Pearl 1st choice and then any but white. Then I saw a black one and thought it was very sharp. Then I saw a Driftwood Pearl in person at last and I fell in love with the color and hoped and preyed that when a car came it would be Driftwood Pearl. It was and I'm so so happy with it.

Sonnuva! Thanks Bif and Brad. After pleading with my sales person to somehow "make it so" and give me a grey interior with the Gun Metal Green® body and of course being denied. Then tossing and turning for several nights over the fact that I am "settling" on the Brown/Ivory interior, I had finally convinced myself that the tan was totally groovy. My wife is digging the tan, my co-workers seem fine with tan, but if I'm going to be honest with myself, then yeah, I am disappointed that I am going to settle for the tan.

The Toyota site is bugged and evil. If you go through the build your own process and you get to the interior color options for the Gun Metal Green® body, if you continue on, but then click back to that tab, the burgundy/grey swatch shows up as an option. I pointed this out to my already annoyed sales person and he wasn't feeling my pain.

That's because they don't get paid to. You didn't know that?

Maybe tonight at work I'll ask people ordering martinis if they want any olives, cocktail onion or gunmetal

Wanted the green (more of a greenish dark silver really), got the silver. Silver was my close second choice, but now I covet whenever I see a green one on the road.

tan interior

In my own opinion the tan interior is weak like a starbucks latte. Remember, Toyota corporate is in complete control of the marketing and distribution for this model, so all illusions that you are placing an oder for a specific car are just that, illusions. Toyota corporate decides which dealers get how many cars and what colors/options and you are offered the chance to buy or wait.

My own theory about the tan interior is that it is designed so that you'll grow tired of it in 3 years an want another car. By then the 2007 prius will have many color/feature options and there won't be any wait (just like the Beetle).

p.s. why can't interior be available in black? and why not woven cloth like every other car?

Gunmetal Grey?

On the web site you find black, silver a light green, and a bright red. The bright red doesn't exist as far as I know, what is actually shipping is a Burgundy red, also known as merlot red in Germany.

There is another dark grey, that could be described as charcoal gray; green-grey; or gunmetal grey. It is not listed on the web site, but I have seen several prius with it. Does anyone have this and/or know the color code for this color?
