Coastal Dave's response times

All:

Since I've got the CD changer and cruise control in my 02, next step is CoastalETech for a few goodies. But after reading lots of posts, it sounds like poor Dave is hugely overworked, and lead times at least for some items stretch to months.

Before I place an order I want to set my expectations properly. Has anyone recently ordered (or recently received) goods from Coastal, and can you tell me what lead time you experienced?

I'm hoping the guy got some help and is cranking out kits in a more timely fashion than in days past.

I wasn't sure if this post really belonged here or was better in the General section, but I figure Dave's stuff is "technical", so here it is.

Well, I ordered the EV mod back in April and got it a few weeks ago. Apparently, it was out of stock but I only found out because someone managed to get through the telephone number and then posted it on PriusChat. It will depend what you're ordering and I suppose it's best to state what you're planning to order and those who ordered similar items can help.

Try counting to 10...

Remember...pulling your hair OUT is easy... putting it back IN again is hard!

You must not have been waiting on the ViewTech 2005 and NAV defeat as long as some of the rest of us. Try counting to 10M!

And... it's not that hard to "put it back IN again".... (see photo)

Sounds like I need to be more sepcific.

I don't have the cash for Dave's Nav system (which I am lusting after), so for now I'm just going to be ordering some of the small stuff, such as:

1) Power outlet 'always on' mod
2) Engine run light / braking indicator combo

And possibly

3) Remote trunk release

Maybe these items generally ship out more quickly?

Well, I was commenting on a completely different source of frustration... and no, I don't have ViewTech or NAV defeat.

He has an '02.
I haven't ordered lately, but I've done 3 orders for my '02, and not had any issues. Recently, I emailed a question, and it was answered the next day.

One of my orders was delayed a week, and I was not billed until it was shipped.

Um, DanD (the original poster) has a 2002 Prius. The engine run light has been out for a long time. (I've had one on my 2001 Prius since before my husband got his 2004 Prius at the end of 2003, anyways.)

Thanks all!

Excellent. Sounds like I can expect fairly quick delivery of the simple stuff for my 02.

Now I just have to ask Dave if he'll substitute a blue ID for the normal red engine run light. After all, we call it the ICE, so blue would seem more appropriate!

Thanks all for the feedback. Here's hoping you get your orders by Xmas!
Lack of service means lack of caring

So, don't just have everyone around claim that you are so busy that you cannot respond. I place my orders MONTHS ago, and have heard NOTHING from these people..It is past patience, past somewhat humorous, past reasonable, and about time that this was attended to...
No one answers the telephone. No one answers repeated emails. It is like shouting at your television. About time someone else got into the business.
Just FYI , got an immediate reply from Kelley at Coastal Dave. Although the picture of the engine run light for the 2004 has been out for over a year, no such animal has ever been available.
Coastal Sounds like a shot in the dark without knowing what you are aiming for. I ordered a coupla things and am just livid each time I hear the phone message that the office hours are M-F 10am-6pm yet no one ever answers. When Kelley does answer, you become so bewildered and amazed that you forget why you were mad and it is a pleasant conversation until you get off the phone and remember that you were going to complain about the lack of service. My order is going on 6 weeks and she claims that the nav video kit (and I agree remover) will work in my 2006. I'm tempted to cancel the order though since if it doesn't work, how long will it take for a refund? I might even get my tax refund first. (In 2007)

Anyone know of any other outfits that have a good video input avail?
