I have a Civic Hybrids in stock it is Galaxy Gray and the Price as always with me on my In-demand cars is MSRP. no Accessories, no Mark up just MSRP! (906)228-4900 ask for Mike Polkki

Please note that all sales posts by dealers must be placed in the 'Dealers' forum. Go into that forum, and you will see a 'Sticky' post detailing how to post there.

as far as I'm concerned, as long as it is a hybrid they're welcome... but dealer posts should be in a dealer-related area, but I don't know if a Honda dealer would want their post lost among a flood of Prius dealer postings...

I understand this is s Civic forum, but I believe the intent is to compare to the Prius and other hybrid vehicles. I don't think it is here to promote it for sales.

Two marques that attack the premise in different ways. The simple and the complex. Should be interesting thread either way. After all the "check" ends up in the same bank!
Ther's little enough that gets posted down here below the top three categories.
I believe I know all the facts necessary about the complex. It would be nice to learn a little about the "simple" from any owners of both.

Only to some readers interpretations. This seemed to be the perfect opportunity to get some info on comparisms of both cars from a guy that sells them. We see very little from a knowageable dealer here, or even a salesman who owns a hybrid. Correct me if I am wrong but we have had only two dealers here that seem to have any hybrid knowledge. Rickey and the gentleman from Virginia. Now we have one from Michigan.
Three years and my dealership has not one employee who has purchased a Prius. What's the story here. Are they all car fanciers who consider the Prius does not meet the qualifications. I'de love to see a thread with info posted by owners who have experiance with both cars and not just a report in statistics in Consumer Reports. Even "way down here."
Encourage them. Please don't ball them out.
As far as the "smoking, drinking eating, personal remark Dan, I might just say, "get a life."
If this ever turned into a "one sided" site, all I can say is "BOORREEING."

I would be interested in hearing some opinions on what (if any) advantages the Civic Hybrid has over the Prius. I glanced at a CH last night at the MN Auto Show; it looked nice but I didn't spend any time with it.

We've seen a lot of discussion on what makes the Prius better than the Civic; what does the Civic have that the Prius doesn't... price or feature-wise?

My youngest son purchased a Civic hybrid last year and loves it. Sticker said 50city/50highway. He's been averageing in the upper forties. The Civic isn't nearly hi tech as the Prius. The emissions are still extremely low and it can use the HOV lanes, but no coolant return reservoir ect: Honda uses the standard Civic engine with a standard 12 volt battery and starter for initial start up. One electric drive motor that is also used for starting after all engine stops; and is also used as a generator to charge main battery. No progressive valve timing, just the standard engine. Has the Prius regenerative braking system. Aside from that the car is a standard Honda sedan and can be worked on by any mechanic who works on Hondas and all parts other than the hybrid system are avaiable at any auto parts store. Has all the same great battery warranties. Of course what I noticed first was the complete instrument panel and shift lever with standard selections. When you get in a Prius it does take some hunting to get in motion but the Civic is just another car, that gets fantastic gas milage. The cost of the Honda with all the goodies like the Nav pak was about $2,000 dollars less than the Prius so equipped, but then it wasn't designed as a hybrid from "day one," and doesn't have anthing exotic like an aluminum hood and trunk lid.

did your son consider the Prius, and if so, why did he choose the Civic?

He carries a computer and valuable papers around and it was the enclosed and locking trunk which swayed him along with the ease of repairs "in country" if any are ever needed. He has found the Civic just as reliable as I have found the Prius but would still pick the Civic over the Prius today.
One other plus is the standard single coolant system. To me it is different, to him, his is a plus. Course the car has the standard Civic A/C system.
And when it gets to a dealer no one
ever has to call "orange county" for advice.

Hi hyperion,

Like DanMan32 said, what's going on with your mood today? your Prius is 04 isn't it? was the Civic with the Integrated Motor Assist out in 04? if they were, you could have purchased the Civic instead of the Prius? much cheaper, any Joe can fix, etc, etc, You Love and Hate your Prius don't you?
Also didn't you just bought another Toyota?

It must be the early Spring fever or the El Ninho effect...!

Rick if you check the post I said the Honda was an 06. Ididn't purchase the Prius because I wanted a Japanese car. I have been a car person for over sixty years and in 04 wondered why only two manufacturers in the world were making hybrids. I had only one choice because after all the information dug up the Prius was the only one designed from scratch as a hybrid. I've mentioned this before.
I believe I have discovered why the rest of the industry is still avoiding the true hybrid and that is because of the complexity and all the little idiosyncrasies we have seen posted here about strange noises, shaky start-ups and hundreds of questions starting with "what is happening?"
I think it is interesting comparing the Honda with the Prius because Honda attacked the problem of improving gas milage with a standard model car which they inexpensively modified. Aside from the high milage figures it is still more of a car in the actual and simple sense.
If the world goes hybrid I believe this is the way it will go. In fact that is exactly what is happening. ie; Camry, Ford escape, Saturn Vue ect: None designed from scratch as hybrids as was the Prius.
However I see no sign of any of the worlds other manufacturers steering in any hybrid direction. It will be interesting to see what is on the roads when the "GOOD" batteries hit the market. I believe the electric car with the small generating system will end up being the choice chosen.
That's just one mans opinion.
Believe it or not I chose the Highlander because I was able to purchase one that was "lo tech," very similar to cars of the eighties. The V6 I have has a standard radio with knob operation and pushbutton tuning for the 12 am and fm stations. An A/C system operated by three simple knobs. One to select fan speed, the next to select temperature on a range from "blue" for cold to white for temperate and of course red for heat, with a knob selection for where you want the air directed. "SUPER"
The seats are fully adjustable and comfortable and the process of getting in and out is just open the door and sit!
The Ford Edge I would have liked on the otherhand was hi tech and very similar to the controls for all systems as those in the Prius. Plus because of the manipulation of the yen it was impossible to pass up on that 5 yr zero percent financing. I'm pleased with the car and it has become the everyday driver and will continue to be so unless we see something like gas rationing. I've already decided that the extra comfort and utility is worth much more than the extra few hundred dollars a year it will cost me to drive rather than the Prius. I've kept the Prius because it is still low milage and the best I could get for it in December was $4,000 less than Edmunds or KBB. My Toyota dealer wasn't really interested in it.
He now has quite a few at the dealership and there are a lot now available at the car auctions. Ford said "no thanks," we wouldn't know how to get it started!

That's still a hybrid. A Prius could just as well operate this way, given an adequate battery storage and an electric charger, which LIon batteries give promise to.

That's very true. Now we just wait for the batteries. The small turbine generators are already here.
From everything learned about straight electric motors though I'm betting they become the complete power source for motivation. For simplification, if nothing else. Removing the power plant from having to share as a motive force, all the complexity of a hybrid is eliminated.
As with the Prius purchase for a learning process, I believe this will be the way I go on my next car purchase and I am happy to see it just might be a GM product.
