My 2008 Prius with 210,000 miles had its catalytic converter stolen. It will in the neighborhood of $3,500 dollars to replace it, and another $300 to have a protective shield put over the catalytic converter to protect it from thieves. My concern is whether or not to spend the money replacing the catalytic converter. My mileage is up there, and should I have to replace the battery in the not too distant future (cost of $3,000-$4,000), I will have spent in the neighborhood of $7,000 to $8,000. Another option is to buy a used Toyota (Prius or Corolla) or a used Mazda 3, both of these cars are recommended by Consumer Reports. I appreciate any feedback. Not sure it matters, but I live in California.
