So I finally have the new Prius (Black #3) and it rules. I do have a couple questions though. It came with a bottle of "toyoguard" stuff. Is this a cleaner, a protectant, or what? The bottle doesn't have any real instructions and the dealer didn't have a clue.

Am I supposed to put this stuff on the cloth/dash? Immediatly, or when I think it needs it?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Also (grrr) it already has a small scratch, any advice?

thanks in advance,

Use the Toyoguard as a car wax - a very good, and expensive one. Since your in NC (I live in Flat Rock) your Prius probably has toyoguard protection added in Jacksonville. The bottle I have says to apply to entire car. :D

Wax

:) Exactly what I was talking about. Don't those instructions seem to vague?

I'm going to try the stuff out on a not so visable part of the car...I'll report back.

I think your supposed to spread it on your arms and legs to keep away the swarming masses of "lookie-looers" when they see their first actual live Prius....

LOL!

I've used the ToyoGuard "cleaner" myself; seems to provide about the same amount of "water repellent" as any decent liquid wax. Don't know how long it "holds up" though, as I first applied it only about 2-3 weeks ago.

Local dealer's observation: as long as water beads up, you're "covered".

Used on the outside of the car. It is a cleaner and sealer. It does keep the luster like a wax, but it also keeps the paint sealed to eliminate oxydation on the paint. Use it after every 4-5 car washes.

You are going to have a very hard time finding a used Prius for that price. From the used market that we have seen here in Statesville, used Prius' go for very close to new sticker. I sold a '02 with 25k miles for 20,000. With how hard the new ones are to get, it reflects in the used market value. Sorry to put a wrench into your plans, but just trying to keep your plans realistic.

Not needed?

Most paint specialists have told me that the modern paints don't ever need any waxing, period. Waxing does produce more "beading" when wet that just paint, but every time I've discussed the waxing subject at the dealer or at the body-shop, they all tell me not to bother, that it doesn't lengthen the life of modern paints. It has even been suggested that it might actually reduce the longevity of the paint. I don't know how accurate the statements are, but seeing as I've heard them repeatedly from a number of sources, I imagine they have some validity.

The Toyoguard sealer isnt a wax. It is as it says, a sealer. It keeps the paint and clear coat sealed to prevent oxydation.
