I recently purchased a Prius 2005 in Puerto Rico. I was wandering if any of you has any information regarding incentives to deduct in the income tax returns for buying hybrid cars like the Prius and if so if this is a federal or state thing. If this is true, I am checking if this applies to us in PR. Thanks everyone.

Its all sort of in flux right now. Read the very recent thread in this very forum: "US Senate - House Energy Bill and Hybrids"

Do PR residents pay and file Federal income tax? If so, then you should get what is currently a deduction.
There's a bill in Congress to make it a credit.

Don't know if PR government has any incentives. You'd have to check locally.

yeah, what DanMan32 said.

If you file a US Federal Income Tax, then you can take the current Clean Fueled Vehicle income tax deduction (adjustment to gross income).
You'll have to check with PR for any PR incentives.
Things could change by tax filing time next year, so check back often.

My question wasn't totally rhetorical. I am genuinely interested. My girlfriend was born in PR, and much of her family are still there.

So, if you can answer the federal question, I'd be grateful.
