Hello all,

Currently in the market for a new car and I've been eyeing some of the 2022 models, specifically the lower end L Eco & LEs. I'm also fielding any leads on used vehicles as well with not a whole lot of luck given the car market right now. However, my question is about bluetooth compatibility. I'm assuming the newer models have wireless bluetooth applications but I can't get a clear answer on whether I'll still need some type of USB connection. I keep seeing cars equipped with Apple CarPlay in their descriptions too and this is a foreign concept to me. If everyone couldn't tell, I'm not quite caught up with modern car entertainment technology and am looking for some information and advice.

Thanks!

I recently purchased a 2011 Prius with no Bluetooth. I am using a cigarette lighter plug-in adapter to attach my iPhone to the radio. The adapter sends a signal to the FM band on a unused frequency. You can use your phone, Sirius ex M, or just play music from your phone into the radio. The adapter cost about $20 from Amazon. I use this same solution and several other cars.

I also recently purchased a 2018 Prius that has Bluetooth. Works great.

I also priced out a 2022 Prius lowest model that has Bluetooth according to the price sheet. Send me an email if you have more questions we can discuss this further on the phone. I am a newer Prius driver but love almost everything about the car. Dave

Thanks for the info, Dave! Did you ever think cigarette lighters would be used to hook your phone up to the radio? Times sure have changed. I think you're right. If I go with a new model the Bluetooth accessories should all be there. I just really struggle to wrap my head around new technology sometimes and it helps to ask people smarter than me in that department. I'll keep you updated on my car purchasing journey!
