I can easily do most of my shopping within 30 miles round trip and never go over 40 mph. Should I drive faster a certain amount of time for the gasoline to kick in and recharge my battery.? I know you shouldn't drive on an empty tank, and I certainly wouldn't do that..but I don't know how long or how far I should drive using the battery alone. Thank you.

The answer you got at PriusChat was right on target.

In the Prius 30 miles is a long way, the ICE will take care of keeping your battery charged and using the battery and ICE appropriately for the conditions. Just get in and drive and don't try to do anything special.

When you get used to the car you can try getting fancy and do some techniques to boost your mileage, but until them just drive it and pay attention to what the car is doing.
