On the '04, is there any way to disable the beeper when traveling in reverse? It drives me nuts and I don't think I need a beeper to tell me I am going backwards!!!!!!!!!!!

I have actually thought of installing a backup beeper on my 02 prius. It seems that people dont always realize that you are going to back out of a parking space when your engine dosen't sound like what they expect, they just stand there behind your car... This is a problem where I work and I regularly have to beep my horn before backing up so the people hanging around in the parking lot realize I am going to move.

I have also put some thought to adding a speaker in the front to play the sound from the jetsons car while driving at low speeds in parking lots.... another time you have to be more observant in the prius because of people steping out in front because they don't hear you coming.

Note that this'll only work on North American 2004 Prius, and not UK, Europe, or Australian 2004 Prius.

Also note the the beeping is only inside the car, to remind you that you are in reverse, like the blinking box around the R on the PRNDLB display.

Thanks for the info. The back up beeping and also the driver seat belt beeping have been eliminated.

Emergency Brake On to Disable Reverse Beeper

We tried the 10 step procedure dozens of times - it finally worked when my wife suggested that we put the emergency brake on (I also had my foot on the regular brake).

My wife was in the passenger seat when this worked which seems to conflict with another members posting.
