Our 2004 Civic Hybrid has a continuosly variable transmission (CVT). We are, in general, delighted with the car, but are puzzled by the apparent randomness of the auto stop feature. Some days it works at every stop. Other days it does not work at any stop. Can anyone offer an explanation of the conditions required for the auto stop feature to operate?

For the auto stop feature to work the climate control system has to be set to economy. I noticed that the auto stop does not work when the outside air temperature is below 45 degrees. If you are in stop and go traffic and not going above 5mph the auto stop feature will not engage.

Hope this helps....enjoy your Hybrid!
