Got an e-mail from my local Toyota dealer. The Hybrid Highlander will be available in October 2005 as a 2006 model, according to them.

Now I'm in a quandary. My 1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee is starting to have problems that indicate to me that it's time for a replacement. I'd really like to go hybrid, but I'm not sure that I can wait that long. I might consider the Lexus in the spring, but that's likely to be more expensive than I'd like.

Pushed back

The latest from the "People that Know" :(

The Highlander Hybrid has been push back from a Feberary 2005 Date to a June/July Release date, due to a (not 9,000) 90,000+ pre-order of the LEXUS Hybrid. The Manufactureing Plant has to push the Highland back to meet the Pre-order demand for the Units to LEXUS!

Our Dealership only has 44 more available slots for pre-ordering the Hybrid Highlander. There baseing Allocations on past performance!

Re: The Highlander is an Impostor

If you're that much of a pompous liberal, don't drive at all. Sell your car, quit using electricity, don't buy anything that's shipped via truck and RIDE A FRIGGIN BICYCLE, you narrow minded twit.

Geez, it's disappointing to hear that the Highlander release date is pushed back so far. This is the first I've read about that. Here in Pittsburgh, our Toyota dealers are clueless! All anybody will tell me is that the big cities will get them first (and they don't seem to know when that is) and that we'll get them sometime after that. I'm just a regular guy who does a little research and I seem to know more about the vehicle than our local dealers! Anybody out there with some "concrete" info for me? Maybe a city/hwy mpg breakdown as well? I read something like a 27.6 mpg average recently, but it seems a lot higher than other info I've read.

Oops, my bad. I guess if I'd found page 1 before reading page 2 I wouldn't have needed to post. Oh well.
