After reading/hearing wonderful things about prius - purchased low mileage 2005 prius from original owner with only 59k; after clear car fax & $150 routine maintenance where nothing wrong was found
-- within next 30 days inverter water pump $550 repair (according to dealer this is water pump #3 for 59k miles); then a/c evaporator core leaked freon - repair estimate $2700.

Any thoughts about how to deal with this situation?

$2700 seems pretty steep to me, you may want to get another estimate from a different shop or two. I don't have my estimating software with me today, will have it tomorrow. Was the ac system working when you bought the car? What are they quoting parts wise?
