Theoretically, yes. In actuality, no.

There's been a few reports of people on their 3rd Classic Prius steering rack. 1st replacement was the early recall or for the steering shudder. 2nd replacement was for the steering shudder... Most of the affected Prius are coming out of the extended warranty period about now on that power steering rack (5 years/unlimited miles in US), so some people are just living with it...

Then there's people who've never seen the shudder at all...

Thanks all. Before calling the dealership with the VIN I asked the seller about the power steering and was told they'd never had any trouble or repairs. Then the service rep told me about the power steering linkage work. I suspected it might have been a complete rack replacement. It may be completely fixed and never pose a problem, but I get nervous when sellers are forgetful about things like that. I'll get more specific info from the service manager if I go ahead and have a buyer's inspection performed, which will depend on further conversations with the seller.

Michelle - So far I'm a one Prius man; a 2004, purchased in October '03. I'm actually tempted to buy another new one and let my daughter take the '04 off to school next year, but don't want to spoil her rotten.

Thanks again everyone.

Drive happpy,
Moo
