New to forum - test driving a Prius

Hi, I'm a lifelong automobile enthusiast and my wife and I are very concerned about air quality and the depletion of the world's natural resources. We just sold my wife's minivan and we picked up a Prius yesterday for a 2 day test drive. I am very impressed - this car is extremely entertaining to drive, I feel like I am driving the car of the future. I am surprised that the handling is so competent in light of the negative comments some of the popular car magazines have made about this issue. The car had 4 miles on it when I started the test drive, and we have beeen averaging 49.0 mpg with the a/c running all the time in this summer heat. I think we're going to buy one in the next day or two.

Hi and welcome to PriusOnline!

Glad you're happy with the test drive. This is usually the thing that'll convince most people. Well, I suppose a test drive for any vehicle will do the same thing. Anyway, feel free to ask any questions you wish and search our past threads for bits of info too!

Great choice! I also found the handling easy and seating comfortable. My mileage isn't as good as yours, but that's not the most important aspect of this exciting new Prius.

Our 2 day test drive concluded and we were both extremely impressed with the Prius. Drove 104 miles and averaged 49.9 mpg. IMHO, the car handles as well as my son's 1995 Honda Accord EX, has much more room inside than the Honda, and gets twice the gas mileage with probably 98% less emissions. What's not to like? The JBL stereo has crisp midrange and actually is very good for a factory stereo, the auto a/c works great, and the car is fascinating to drive. Took it on the highway yesterday and was getting mileage in the mid-50's and the car felt very solid and planted at highway speed.

or you can look up the vehicle to be compared at http://www.fueleconomy.gov/

http://www.fueleconomy.gov/feg/bymodel/ ... cord.shtml (depending on model, 7.0-8.9 tons of greenhouse gasses per year. air pollution score not given.)

Hi. Soboy, I was wondering where you got a 2 day test drive. I would love to do that. I treid getting a test drive, and dealership would barely let me do even 5 minutes, let alone 2 days.

Did you rent the car to do that?

soboy 07-30-2005 05:15 PM

Mandabar: I got a 2 day test drive at Sandy Springs Toyota in Atlanta, GA. And it was free, I didn't have to rent the car. Now, this dealer is a friend of mine, we've known each other for over 20 years, my wife used to work for him and I have done a lot of business with him over the years. I doubt they'd offer the same test drive terms to many others.
