Default Ran out of gas!

I ran out of gas, so I had to finish the steaks under the broiler! My Webber just isn't as efficient as my car!

Listen, the grill going out on the 4th of July is an emergency at my house. AAA didn't agree when I called to see if they could bring me a refill.

Call me old fashioned, but I do all my grilling on charcoal and wood chunks. It isn't that I haven't tried the gas versions. In fact, I made my first one back in the early seventies using an old charcoal barbecue fitted with a waterheater burner. Had two or three professionally built gas/propane bbq's after that, but just never quite got the flavor and satisfaction out of them that I get with charcoal and wood. One advantage is that I can tell at a glance if I have enough charcoal on hand. I also snuff it out and save it for the next time, as I grill several times a week year - around, including our Thanksgiving turkey on the Weber, the largest of my three grills.
Kind of snarky of the Auto Club, though! : )

Hey HEP, my son in Eden Prarie is interested in looking at a Prius to replace his Mitsubishi Eclipse GT. Any suggestions on a good Toyota dealer in the Minneapolis area that might have a couple of Prius' in stock?

There are a couple closer than my dealer, but I did see a couple on the lot when I was in for my oil change last week. Toyota City in Brooklyn Park has taken very good care of us through 4 cars. The sales people come and go, but their service managers are great!

Rudy Luther Toyota in Golden Valley would be closer and is the same owner.

Hiya, Hep! How's the coffee?

Listen, I too am a charcoal user, but there's one major drawback to us wood-burners' chosen fuel: Cleanup. You must wait for the ashes to cool before removing them.

Sometimes, it can take HOURS. If you don't wait long enough, the embers will burn a hole through whatever you use to contain/store them, possibly posing a fire hazard. Be careful!

With the Weber, I just close the vents and it goes out by itself and cools off within an hour or two. I also have an old Brinkman smoker/grill and I use the domed lid of an iron skillet to snuff out the coals as soon as I finish grilling. But you are correct, if I leave the lid off, there will still be some heat coming off the ash and remaining coals a good twelve hours later.

We grill often. In the summer, nearly everyday something hits the grill. I loved my old domed Weber, but waiting for the coals to be ready didn't fit the family life. Gas wins on convenience for now.
