Default Dash/interior scratches

Sad story, but Toyota made it right (although it took two weeks with the car in the shop): The main computer on my 2005 Prius went out so there were no displays showing. This was within 2 months of buying the car. They had to take the computer out and send it off to have it recalibrated...they said they could NOT give me a new one since it had the odometer in it and that had to reflect the mileage I had gone. They were nice enough to give me a free rental for the two weeks. However, when the dash was reassembled there were over 11 scratches and nicks in all parts of it, along with scratches on the black top of the interior door panels. I tagged all of them with blue tape and took it back. They finally replaced almost the entire dash (about $3000 worth of parts they said), and it was like new. But I am suprsied that Toyota would cover those areas with paint as opposed to vinyl, and that they scratch so easily. The Plexiglass in the center dash (radio and storage area) are really prone to scratches. Is there anything you can do to coat those areas to avoid scratches? The service manager said they are realizing how easily the interior scratches, but didn't give me a solution. Anyone else notice how the dash scratches and the top side panels (where you rest your arm) show sweat stains?

I don't have sweat stains, but the left side just at the window, where I rest my arm, has a nasty scratch from my watch. Ok, so I may be the only one who knows it is there, but RATS. And on the cup holder thingy, there's a scuff where something swiped over it.

OMG......same here sanny....the drivers door where my dog rest here paws while sticking head out the window.....sigh!.....
Noticed while wiping it down....when it's wet....it looks WAY different....shiney and almost sparkley metallic!

one other observation.......the chrome ring around the start button....at mid-day....when the sun's beating down......I find myself having to dodge the death ray it emits!........

I noticed this during the first few days of ownership and am completely surprised the finish hasn't been changed in the newer models. Especially when reading how the seat material has been especially selected for it's ability to repel dirt. For gosh sakes, don't try to spray any dust type of repellant on the dash (like armoural) I use a small calcarcover treated dust brush on the dash but even this will really not do a perfect job. This is one dash you don't want to throw sunglasses on, or place a cellphone or book. When I get tired of looking at the damage (scratches in finish) I believe I will take my car into a car upholstery shop and get some kind of a fitted vinyl cover made for it. Not the standard sold on "E" bay as they cover too much, including the air-bag compts. Material will have to be very selective so as to avoid glare.
