Default Ordering a prius in non-standard colors . . . .

I noticed a picture of a Prius taxi was recently posted. The taxi was of course in standard taxi yellow. With all the plastic used in modern manufacturing of car bodies I can't imagine that this was any thing but a factory produced yellow prius. This brings me to my question, if I wanted a taxi yellow prius might there be a way to get it, assuming I was in no rush and could wait for when they spit out thier batch of tax yellow prius's for that year. Or what about other non-standard body colors?

The taxi was probably part of a fleet order and I doubt they would be able to "slip one in" for you. I really liked some of last year's Prii color, especially the silvery/lavender and the deep Irish green. 2004 choices are much more conservative for my taste. I think a yellow Prius with green or red upholstery trim would be a hot item.

I was under the impression the owner had it painted by a paint shop. Presumably, any car can be painted.

Yes, you can have any car repainted but others on the chatline say that even a very expensive re-painting job lessens the value of the car. Not a problem if you plan on keeping your Prius for a long time, and you really don't like the present color. I'm planning to do some bamboo art on mine which will "seriously erode" the resale value, although my art cars have sold well in the past with no problem.

Default I don't think it was painted, beyond the factory . . .

Plastic does not paint well, take a good look, the taxi has the plastic handles , everything yellow.

Take a look at the majority of Saturn vehicles (at least the old ones). Did you know that their "outer shells" are made entirely of plastic? Also, these guys are not some hobbyists (at the paint shops).

A testimony to your artistic talent. The market for art is limited, but the prices can be high.

I saw the picture of the yellow Prius taxi and it was fabulous! Volkswagon offered a similarly colored yellow beetle a few years ago. HOT! I think I might have gone nuts and gotten a bright yellow PRI if it were available! (with black interior! wouldn't show the dirt, either!) Well, we can dream of better colors. The world is in its "conservative" mode now......
