Default Replaced both batteries & Prius won't start

Our 2005 Prius ran great but we had to let it sit for 2 months. We got it started and had the dealership fix the rear brakes but they said it wouldn't start & the battery had 2 bad modules. Not having the $4000 to replace it, we picked it up - it started fine and drove it straight home. It had intermittent problems starting and finally after a week would no longer start. Found a used battery for $600 with installation - the guy drove to our house with the new battery in his car and switched it with our old one. His tester showed the same bad parts as the dealership. We bought a new 12v battery & installed it. We checked the orange latch on the hybrid battery over & over again to make sure it is making contact. We checked all the fuses listed in the owners Manuel and they were ok. The power windows & door locks & lights work fine but the display doesn't light up at all. The car did have standing water under the spare tire so there could be corrosion.
How do I check the codes without any power? Is there a way to check the big fuses and relays? Please help! Thank you
