Default hybrid battery dead

My 2005 Prius apparently has to have the hybrid battery replaced. Of course this happened 1 month after the warranty expired so I am not covered under the warranty. I live in the San Diego area so I had the 100,000/10 year. I am going to get a reconditioned battery through my mechanic as the dealer price is about $3900. Does anyone have any recommendations.

Thanks
