I have a 2007 Prius i've owned for 7 years and it's always worked out just fine. I've noticed my gas milage starting to suffer and figured it was time for a tuneup since it's just past the 100k mark. We carefully studied how to change the spark plugs and followed the service manual to the T. Everything seemed to have worked out great. We plugged the battery back in, tested the windows and then powered the car on for the final test.
The engine powered on, sputtered, shut off and then i received the triangle of death along with Problem, The car with explanation mark, and check engine light. We immediately grabbed the code scanner and it read P0351. I searched the forum and found it means Coil #1
Malfunction. We checked the Spark plugs, all was good, we purchased a new Coil, and also tested the harnesses for all 4 to be safe. Everything checks out fine, even the gaps are to spec. We turned the car on and the same happened. The engine powers on, sputters, car shakes , and all the error lights turn on when the car shuts off.
The harnesses are plugged into the correct coils and we followed everything the manual explained down to the annoying task of keeping the key 20 feet away when working on the car. There was nothing wrong with the car before we changed the spark plugs. What could be wrong. The Code reader continues to give P0351.
The car cannot be driven, and i can't have it towed only to find out i can't afford the service fees at toyota. I called and they wouldn't even give me an estimate over the phone. I'm running out of options and can sure use any and all the help i could get. We're pretty handy under the hood, just need some guidance.
