Default 2010 Tire Recommendations

My 2010 Prius now has 33,000 miles and the stock Yokohoma tires are badly worn. I was looking for some opinions as to owners who have upgraded their tires from stock. Since this car drives 25,000 miles a year and most of it open road this is a perfect time to upgrade the rubber.

Michelin Energy Saver A/S & the Bridgestone Ecopia EP422 are both being marketed by Discount Tires

as a fuel efficient and best buy Tire. Any opinions on this?

As a new member I would like to say in advance any help is greatly appreciated. When I bought this car for my wife I did some surfing here and I value your. Thanks for taking the time to read this.

It would help if you gave your location. Tire recommendations vary with locality.

I have the Goodyear Fuel Max tires on my 09 and am very happy with them.

From experience, Michelin's provide the longest mileage and best reliability. We have had two sets of HydroEdges on our 2002 Prius and would be on our third set, however they quit making them in our 14-inch size. Please note that this tire does NOT perform well in snow or ice, and is designed for wet or dry roads. They performed well in Arizona and the desert southwest.

Check for mileage ratings. The HydroEdges are rated at 90,000 miles; and several other Michelins are rated at 80,000 miles, including the Michelin X radial sold through Costco (which we recently purchased). The two sets of HydroEdges we had were replaced at approximately 65,000 miles due to age, and their tread was not completely worn off.

Make sure any tires you buy are rated for 44 PSI max, and keep them pumped up to 44/42 or 42/40 so they will wear evenly. This is very important if you plan to keep them for the 80,000 miles for which they are rated. This also reduces rolling resistance.

Also, tires rated for low rolling resistance may provide better fuel economy; although, we have had good luck with all Michelin tires, especially the HydroEdges.
